LORD JEOR MORMONT

  jeormormont.png

Jeor Mormont, called Old Bear, is the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.

Strong and experienced man, before taking the Black, he was Bear Island’s Lord and brother of Maege Mormont, new lady of the isle.

Attended by his faithful crow, animal of witty talkativeness, Jeor Mormont always has been an essential member of the black confraternity. Skilled strategist, connoisseur of the extreme North unhospitable territories and capable commander, the Old Bear was able to hold a confraternity divided by his own members’ fear and cruelty.

With a noble heart, he has a character vigorous as the rock and cold as the North snow and he’s able to discern courage and talent, further who really deserve to bring the Black.

His son Jorah Mormont was exiled and now he is becomed the sworn shield of Daenerys Targaryen, pretender to the Iron Throne.

MASTER AEMON TARGARYEN

maestro_aemon.gif

Maester Aemon Targaryen is the wisest, eldest, most expert and most erudite Maester, among the Night’s Watch. Although there are a few to know the secret of his family, even fewer are those who know Aemon Targaryen could have been a king himself.

His grandfather was Daeron II Targaryen, the Young Dragon, the one who annex Dorne to Seven Kingdoms, trough a marriage with a dornish Princess: she gave him four children. Maekar Targaryen, Aemon’s father, was the younger of these four and Aemon, called so in honor of the Dragon Knight, was his third child. A thing that the wise Maester love to say is that when he was young, he was slow with blade, but fast with mind. Shortly after, his father sent him to the Citadel to study to become a Maester.

This happened when he was about nine years old and was ninth or tenth in the line of succession.

Aemon was submerged by his books, when the elder of his two uncles, the heir to the Throne, died in a tournament incident. he left two sons, but neither during so long: both of them perished in the great epidemic of Spring. Even King Daeron died and the crown pass to his second son, Aerys I Targaryen.

Under the Aerys reigh, Aemon had already forged a dozen of Maester ring and he made solemn oath at the Citadel, going to serve at some lordling, till Aerys died, without heirs. The Throne pass to the forth Daeron’s son, Maekar, Aemon’s father: he called all his sons back, asking that everyone of them pertaining in Small Council, but Aemon declined. That seat would have passed to the capital Grand Maester, not to himself. He went to serve at the eldest of his brother, now heir to the Throne, another Daeron, but even he died, leaving an insane child, caused by an illness from a whore.

Following brother, Maekar’s second-born, was Aerion the Monstrous: he must be himself insane, because he thought that if he drank an entire bottle of Wildfire, he would have transformed into a dragon. However, gods were merciful with him and transformed him only in a deadbody.

Not even a year later, also King Maekar died, during a battle against an outlaw Lord.

At this point Small Council openly gave the crown to Aegon V the Unlikely, skipping the infant Aerion’s child and the Daeron’s daughter. But only somebody knows that before Aegon they offer the crown to Aemon himself, but he refused it, even tought with discretion. Gods, said Aemon, had chosen that he would have served, not reigned.

He had made solemn oath and although High Septon had offered himself to annul its, Aemon didn’t want listening reasons. Nobody want an Aerion’s heir and Daeron’s daughter was insane, so the crown passed to Aemon’s younger brother, just Aegon V the Unlikely.

Knowing that if he had remained at court, nobles adverse to the reign of Aegon would have opposed themselves, Aemon decided to take the Black and went on the Wall. And there he has remained, while his brother, his brother’s son and the son of him hae reigned consecutively, until ser Jaime Lannister pose an end to Dragon dynasty. And for all this time he have always remained to watch from afar, from the Wall, never abnegating his own oath.

Nowadays Aemon Targaryen has more than a hundred of years: he is old, withered and blind, but not lesser loyal: with Daenerys and Viserys Targaryen, he is the last of the Ancient Dynasty, being besides a far uncle of them.

Aemon takes care of the crows and he is master of healing and medic sciences.

SER ALLISER THORNE

Ser Alliser Thorne is the Master of Army for the rookies of the Night’s Watch, at the Castle black. He is dull and he has an hard voice sharp as a Valyrian blade. He don’t like his pupils too much; rather it seems that he hate them all. Low, heavy-set and muscular, long, dirty, never combed hairs, obsidian eyes, ser Alliser Thorne is indeed a man of valor, although he seldom show its, above all to his rookies.

BENJEN STARK

  benjenstark.png

Benjen Stark, Brandon, Lyanna and Eddard Stark of Winterfall’s younger brother, is the uncle of young Ned’s children Robb, Jon, Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon.

Being the third-born son of Lord Rickard Stark, after Brandon and Eddard, Ben never had great chances to become Lord. So he decided with his father consent to give his own life for the honor of Night’s Watch, taking the Black.

On the Wall, exactly at Castle black, Ben Stark have done very well, arriving to cover the charge of First Ranger, leader of those Night’s Watch who venture beyond the Wall, beyond the last border of the World. Black hairs, marked features, dry like a basalt spur, however Ben is recognizable for the persistent joy spark in his steel azure eyes.

Being an honorable member of the Night’s Watch, Benjen Stark is very close to the Lord Commander, Jeor Mormont.

CHETT

Night’s Watch assigned to attendant arrangement. Before he take of Maester Aemon’s crown, after he is nominated Master of kennels.
Grown at Harpy Field, in the Riverland and son of a leeches binder, he was sent to the Wall by the Lord of his land, Lord Frey, for the murder of a woman named Bessa who refused him because his face, cover by blisters and bladders.

COTTER PYKE

Lord Commander of Eastwatch by the Sea for a long time, Cotter Pyke is the living proof that even poor men and miserables can become someone, in the Night’s Watch.

And certainly not in negative point.

Cotter Pyke was born in a cavern cellar in Iron Islands, given to light by a whore.

With a peculiar sense of humor and above all friendly, Cotter Pyke can be never defined a handsome man, although he have a dry build, but solid and dull like an iron wire, under his studded black brigantine and his roughspun breeches.

With small and close-set eyes, broken nose, widow’s peak as sharply pointed as the head of a spear, sometime ago he was hit by the pox that had ravaged his face badly and the beard he has grown to hide the scars was thin and scraggly.

Manners of Cotter Pyke are gross, even for his origins, but in battle he had always fought with great courage.

DALBRIDGE

He is the eldest of the fellows of Qhorin Halfhand. In his youth he was the squire for a not better known king and his brother called him “Squire” Dalbridge. He has the sharpest sight of the confraternity and with his longbow is a formidable archer.

DAREON

Dareon is a trainee brother. Some night, in the common hall, he sing for the brothers. Before entering the Night’s Watch he had been an apprentice singer. He was sent to the Wall because he was caught in bed with the daughter of Lord Rowan of Goldenglove. Girl named it a rape, but Dareon has always denied these accuses claiming she was willing. Maester Aemon said his voice his honey poured over thunder.

SER DENYS MALLISTER

Ser Denys Mallister is an old knight of noble origins and remarkable culture, actually beneath the solemn oath of Night’s Watch.

In youth, ser Denys had immediately given proof of can be a great fighter and strategist.

Member of the Noble House Mallister of the Trident, born under the Booming Tower of Seagard, Mallister town, was made squire at twelve, kinght at eighteen and won is first tournament at twenty-two.

He unseated great knight like Lord Tarly, father of the actual Lord Randyll Tarly and Lord Alester Florent, on occasion of different tournaments.

Nowadays, they are thirty-three years that ser Denys Mallist made his oath like Night’s Watch and he has always been a banner for the confraternity.

One of the few men of noble origins who can be found on the Wall, he was elected Lord Commander of Shadow Tower.

He was twice a candidate to become Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, but both two times he failed, even if nearer to the target on the second time. He left the charge before to Lord Qorgyle and later to Lord Mormont.

Old, but sage, strong, brave and with a soothed voice, all of the men under his command at the Shadow Tower don’t hesitate to say that he will be the next Lord Commander after Jeor Mormont, the Old Bear.

Looking every inch a Mallister, ser Denys’ hairs was largerly gone. His beard is white as snow and his face was deeply line.

But ages don’t grieve him too much: yet he has grace in his movements and teeth in his mouth and his blue-grey eyes are not faded.

On his sable is posed a black cloack, halted with a silver eagle, the emblem of Seagard.

Denys Mllister is known also to doesn’t agree with the Lord Commander of the Eastwatch by the Sea, Cotter Pyke, for politic reasons.

Pyke was born in the Iron Islands and Seagard, Noble House Mallister’s town, was erected to control and hopefully push back attacks made by the Ironmen.

DONAL NOYE

Donal Noye is the Castle Black’s blacksmith. He has a large and dish nose, an ispid beard, seldom shaved, a chest large as an ale barrel, and so his venter. Years ago, he fought during the siege of Stom’s End and there he tragically lost his left arm. But not for this, his blacksmith craft undergoing. But the battle at Storm’s End was not the only fight for Donal Noye. He saw all the Seven Kingdom, he was in all the brothels and drank himself in all the taverns. He was a blacksmith, even before losing the arm, and they say that he forged King Robert’s warhammer, the one that crushed the life from Raeghar Targaryen. When he was old, an axe hit his left limb, during the siege of Storm’s End, and the whole arm had to come off. Only then, crippled, but still far from his end, he took the Black and went to the Wall.

EBBEN

Stubby, bald as an egg and with muscles hard like rocks, Ebben serves in the confraternity of the Night’s Watch from when he was a boy. He uses a battle axe that he maintain well cured, with both the cuts so sharp that they spark.

DOLOROUS EDD

Eddison Tollett or “Dolorous Edd”, as he is called by his brothers, is the pessimist squire of the old Lord Commander Jeor Mormont. Expert guardian with a dismal and grey mood, he is continually sad, but also realist and wise. He well knows the dangers of the North and the defences against them. Often, behind his melancholy, it is possible to catch advises of great wisdom.

GARED

He is a man that has already spent the fifty years. he has spent the greatest part of his life from boy and all that from man in the Night's Watch, of which he has been being to the service for forty years. He doesn't bear to be taken with lightness , especially from the new recruits. In past he has lost the ears, the little finger of the left hand and three fingers of the feet caused by the cold of the North and this experience has marked his life

GRENN

He was a boy of robust bulid, perhaps overly robust, and in Night’s Watch he is Jon Snow’s training fellow. Because of his size, he is slow and clumsy during fights, but he is even very strong. He is sixteen years old. Large shoulders, thickly neck, very tall and with dark hairs and eyes, Grenn joined the Night’s Watch because he had nothing to live.

THREE-FINGER HOBB

Called so for his right hand disablement, Hobb is the best cook of the Night’s Watch. Kind and with a good heart, he is one of the few confraternity advantages. Although the food is scarce and little attractive, Hobb succeed to warm your heart with his dishes.

JON SNOW

jon-snow.gif

Jon Snow is the bastard son of Eddard Stark of Winterfell, born by an extramarital relation with a woman, who forever has remained in wolves Lord’s heart. A fact that had brought tensions between Jon and Lady Catelyn Tully, Lord Eddard’s wife.

He has dark hairs and eyes similar to his father’s ones and he share a merry childhood with his brothers and sisters, to whom he always has been very affectionate. Expecially to little Arya, with he lived wonderful moments.

When he is forteen years old, pushed by the persuasion of becoming useful for his relatives and so not being considered a “bastard”, he leave Winterfell for the Wall, to wear dark clothes of Night’s Watch.

Always attended by his direwolf Ghost, a wonderful albino specimen, twin of his brothers’ direwolves, Jon, nicknamed Lord Snow, discover many friendships and a fraternal fellowship among Night’s Watch. One of his closest friends is fat and clumsy Samwell Tarly, a good-hearted boy.

PYP

Pypar, called Pyp, thin Night’s Watch boy with flapping ears, is a real chameleon, with a thousand faces and voices. Telling stories, he interpretes all the characters: kings or cheats, men or women. This talent was gained thanks to a long journey through the Seven Kingdom with a group of strolling players. Pyp boast himself of detecting people’s provenance thanks to their accent.

QHORIN HALFHAND

Qhorin is called Halfhand for his right hand disamblement, caused by a fight against a Brute. They say that, once this Brute had cut his fingers, Qhorin blind him with his own blood and then killed him. Halfhand is one of the most experienced and skilled Black Crows. Ranger of extreme obstinacy, physical and mental strength, he represent a jolly for the confraternity, as well as a bogeyman for Brutes, who look in him the whole energy and toughness of the Seven Kingdom guardians.

SAMWELL TARLY

  samtarly.jpg

Horn Hill’s Lord Randyll Tarly’s first-born, Tyrell’s vassal, Samwell is a fat boy, sent to the Wall because he was considered too much tender and kind, to be a liege lord. Fragile although his size, he is a boy of great goodness and wise mind. Physically unable and clumsy in every manual activity, he is acute and cultured. He can read, write and take care of the crows.

STONESNAKE

This veteran Ranger, called “Stonesnake”, is the best Crows’ climber, beyond the Wall. Wiry and short, Stonesnake is about fifty, with a thick grey beard. More strong than he seems, he is provided of a sight which, during night, is better than anybody one. He wear a worn-out cape of fur and his weapon is a short sword.

YOREN

Yoren is a Night’s Watch veteran, one of the best, and above all he is one of the few having gained the total trust of Castle Black’s Lord Commander Jeor Mormont, who consider him a key member of Night’s Watch.

However his look isn’t so encouraging: Yoren is a curved man, with a twisted shoulder, and many would find him sinister.

His features are hidden behind a beard as black as pitch and he leave a sour smell behind him, because his roaming don’t leave much time for personal cleanness, above all considering that, when have free time, Yoren don’t hesitate to reach a tavern for a good glass of Dornish Red.

In fact, Yoren’s duty is travelling for the Seven Kingdoms, or better, sadly, between Seven Kingoms’ prisons, recruiting new Night’s Watch members, due to the fact that now Confraternity has lesser than a thousand men.

This occupation bring him the “Wandering Crow” nickname.

Anyway, Yoren charisma is undeniable: often alone, he is able to keep under his orders entire troops of criminals, intended to the Wall. He is a good traveller: the Wandering Crow carries out his duty since thirty years old and, in this whole period, he lost only three men.

SER WAYMAR ROYCE

Ser Waymar Royce is the young scion of an ancient lineage. Handsome eighteen years old boy, with grey eyes and thin build, he is a Brother who, for his noble origins, show nerve-racking primacy, in spite of his inexperience and his young age. He has been belonging to the Night's Watch from about four years. In past he had been a poacher, but he was captured by the Lord Jason Mallister's watches astride while he was skinning a fawn in the main woods around Seagard. he was proposed him therefore to go to the Barrier to take the black instead of making a hand be cut for the theft. In the first times he was terrorized by the ancient histories on the bewitched forest, but now he is a veteran, with hundreds of mission behind the shoulders. His poacher's past has give him the capacity to move araound the forest more silently than everybody.
