LORD BALON GREYJOY

Balon Greyjoy is the Lord of the Iron Islands, Salt and Stone King, Seawind Son, Holder Lord of Pyke.

He is married with Lady Alannys from House Harlaw, who gave him four children: Rodrik and Maron, first and second-born, both died during the rebellion of Iron Islands against King Robert Baratheon; Asha, eldest survivor and commander of the Black Wind and Theon, the last child, taken as “protègè” by Eddard Stark after the rebellion, to assure that Lord Balon couldn’t foment other rebellions.

He is a kindless man, cold-hearted and self-seeker. He hasn’t forget the defeat and the death of his eldest sons and hatch the wish to revenge against his enemies, expecially the Starks, and to restore the “Ancient Rule”, based on pillage, violence and piracy.

Lord Balon has three still alive brothers: Euron Crow’s Eye, captain of the Silence, corsair and marauder, Victarion, lord commander of Iron Fleet, and Aeron “Damphair”, priest of the Drowned God cult.  

HIS WIFE

ALANNYS HARLAW

Wife of Lord Balon Greyjoy and sister of Lord Rodrick Harlaw. She is a woman little actractive with stong and with long white hair. Her life change radically following the death of her two children, Rodrick and Maron, during the rebellion of her husband, but mostly with the departure of Theon to Winterfell as hostage of Starks. After a few years from these events she move from Pyke to Ten Towers, residence of her brother. Is said that in the last years in Pyke often at night she wander by candlelight for the rooms of the fort calling shrilly her children.

THE BALON ' BROTHERS

EURON GREYJOY 

Second son of Quellon Greyjoy, born from his second wife, commander of Silence and captain of a crew formed only by mute men, was exiled by his brother Balon, for have had an intimacy with their brother Victarion’s wife.

Called with his nickname for the band that he keep on his left eye. With glace visage and beard and hairs black, although his advanced age, Euron is the most appealing of the four brothers, but also the most bloody and bossy.

VICTARION GREYJOY 

Third child of Quellon Greyjoy, born from his second wife, he is his elder brother Balon’s right arm and commander of the Iron Fleet and of the Iron Victory.

With a solid and muscular build, Victarion is the biggest among the brothers. His hands are notable, incredibly huge and strong, and capable, also without armies, to inflict considerable damages during battles.

He had three wives: first died for childbirth, second for lues. He murdered the third by himself, because her intimacy with the other elder brother, Euron, who was exiled by Balon for this cause. Against Victarion advice, who would have condemned him to death.

AERON GREYJOY

The youngest of the four Quellon Greyjoy’s living sons, fattish and frivolous, if compared to his brother Balon, was clearly despided by him. When he was sixteen years old, his longship, the Golden Storm, sank in proximity of Fair Isle, during the rebellion of Greyjoy against King Robert, when Stannis Baratheon entrapped his brother Victarion and destroyed the Iron Fleet.

He was found by some fishermen and dragged in chains to Lannisport, spending end of ribellion in Casterly Rock cells. But at that moment he drowned and rebirthed from sea, becoming the priest of the Drowned God, divinity of Iron Islands.

By then he walk on his naked feet, letting beard and hairs to grow freely, plaiting them with seaweeds (that’s why the nickname) and drinking from a winebag full of salt-water that he keep costantly at his side; but also his soul is changed: now nobody can frighten him and he was become the most important and masterful priest of the isles.

THE BALON'S CHILDREN

ASHA GREYJOY

Asha, living eldest Balon’s child, is a dull temperament girl, like her father.

Being the only child remained at Pyke after Theon was taken away, she thinks hereditariness of Iron Islands belongs to her, instead of a boy who almost never lived at Pyke.

She is a skilled sailor. She rules an own longship, the Black Wind, and crew obey her like she was a man.

Father repose in her all his hopes, after war took away his two eldest sons, and Eddard Stark the third.

THEON GREYJOY

Theon Greyjoy, nineteen years old, last Lord Balon’s alive male son, was taken as “protègè” by Eddard Stark, after the rebellion of Ironmen against the North, and he was brought to live at Winterfell, when he was only a kid. He was only just nine years old. At Winterfall he become a friend of Robb Stark, some years younger than him, and he consider Robb like a sort of younger brother. With him, Theon often talk about girls, hunting and training himself with the sword. He’s not fond of Jon Snow, the bastard son of Lord Eddard, and he considers other young Starks just babies, not deserving of his friendship.

Theon, a very dangerous warrior with his bow, seem to be a cheerful boy, who face everything with frivolity and superficiality, always with a smile on his lips, even in situations that have nothing funny. Instead he hide a stony personality, proper of an Ironman, and a huge wish of glory, power and fame.
